Volunteering actions are of tremendous benefits to both those in need and the society。 Olympic Games are a good example。 As is known to all， volunteers played an active role in Beijing Olympic Games。 Without them， it would be a tough task to hold this un-precedent Olympic Games。 Therefore， we can say that it was those volunteers who ensured the success of these games。

As modern college students， we should get actively involved in volunteering activities。 By participating， we can learn how to work well in a team， how to improve our interpersonal skills and organizational ability。 Undoubtedly， all of these are critical for our person growth。 So， we should take this chance to learn and to grow。

Volunteers
Each nation has many good people who help to take care of others。 For example， some high
school and college students in the United States often spend many hours as volunteers in hospitals， orphanages or homes for the aged。 They read books to the peopie in these places，or they just visit them or listen to their problems。 Other young volunteers go and work in the homes of people who are sick or old。 They paint，clean up，or repair houses， do their shopping and mow their lawns。 For boys who no longer have fathers there is an organization called Big Brothers。 College students and other men take these boys to basketball games or on fishing trips and help them to get to know things that boys usually learn from their fathers。
Some cities have a number of clubs where boys and girls can go to play games or learn crafts。 Some of these clubs show movies or organize short trips to the mountains，the beaches，museums or other places of interest。 Most of these clubs use a lot of high school and college students as volunteers because they are young enough to remember the problems of younger boys and girls。
Volunteers believe that some of the happiest people in the world are those who help to bring happiness to others。

Another thing we need to work on is our English skills。 Teachers and parents often put great emphasis on our English skills especially listening and speaking。 I want to be a volunteer in 2008， to be an interpreter。 For now， I must do something helpful to improve my spoken English。 Rome isn't build in a day， so is English。 It can't be improved in a day or two。 It takes time and energy。 There are no shortcuts to improve your spoken English; the most productive way is to grab all opportunities around you to open your mouth。 For instance， taking part in all kinds of English contests is a good way， you can meet some excellent contestants， and you can share the experience of learning and some good method of learning。 I will keep participating in all English activities to polish up my English。 I'm sure by the year of 2008， I will be able to master English well just as my mother tongue。
